iSoftPhone, a VoIP telephony app for Mac that uses a virtual Internet phone, has been updated to include Voicemail support, third party application support, enhanced provider support and more.

iSoftPhone is said to provide crystal clear voice quality, while the clean user interface makes it attractive and practical. A noteworthy addition with the release of iSoftPhone 2.2 was the Dock icon, which let users know when they missed a call. Another new feature was the prompt before quitting, when using Cmd + Q. iSoftPhone also allows users to make calls directly from Marketcircle's Daylite productivity suite. The program checks incoming calls to match the number with a name in Daylite, and displays names of Daylite contacts.

According to Xnet Communications, one of the least expensive solutions to create your own telephone network is the Virtual PBX, which eliminates the need for expensive hardware and a team of network engineers to maintain it. iSoftPhone can thus be configured to work with auto attendants, voice-mail, unified messaging, and find-me-follow-me capability.

With iSoftPhone 2.4, if your provider has a voicemail service, you may quickly configure and access your voice mails from within iSoftPhone. The built-in third-party application support leverages iSoftPhone's productivity features and ease of use, with the newly-added support to make calls and send SMS from other applications using simple Applescripts.

Also available with the new release is the option to use your preferred configuration. “With so many providers using a myriad of configurations, it is necessary for as to cater for all of them,” says Xnet. “Where possible, we try to do this automatically but we have also provided some Advanced SIP Settings to cater for non standard configurations.” The company also points out to its latest efforts in offering enhanced support for the more popular providers like sipgate and 1und1.

iSoftPhone costs $75 to buy. You may try it out for free by downloading a 30-day trial version. The program is a Universal Binary, and requires Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or later to run.
