It's been quite a while since we last saw iRiver introduce a new device on the market, but the company's Russian website has just recently published the first pictures and specification of the yet-unreleased P8 portable media player.

Since we are talking about an iRiver P-series PMP, the P8 is built around a large, 5-inch touch-enabled display, which should offer great portability as well as a decent screen real estate for watching your favorite movies.

Its only downside is the rather low 800x480 resolution, but fortunately, the P8 also comes with an HDMI video output that supports 1080p Full HD playback.

This way, the media player can be connected to a large screen HDTV or to a computer monitor when the need arises, and such a device is available near you.

The range of supported file formats is also large enough so that the P8 can playback virtually anything you throw at it (including AVI, XviD, WMV, MKV, OGG, APE, or FLAC to name just a few) as long as it fits on the 8GB or 16GB of storage available in the two versions of the PMP.

In addition, if you find yourself requiring more space for Full HD movies, the iRiver player is also equipped with a microSD slot for tacking on additional storage. This is compatible with SDHC cards up to 32GB in capacity.

The 227g iRiver P8 media player gets its power from a beefy 3440mAh Li-polymer batter pack that is able to support up to 9 hours of video or 40 hours of audio playback without requiring a recharge.

No information regarding pricing or availability was released at this time, and we also don't know if the iRiver P8 will be available worldwide once it's officially launched. (via Akihabara News)
