Shazam Encore now “optimized for the fabulous new iPhone 5 and iPod touch”

Music discovery provider Shazam Entertainment has announced a major new release of Shazam Encore for iPhone and iPod touch players, specifically targeting users of the iPhone 5, as well as future owners of the fifth-generation iPod touch.

Slated to ship later this month, the new iPod touch is being targeted by a new Shazam update that extends the user’s view with optimizations for “the fabulous” new player that now comes equipped with a 4-inch Retina display.

The updated Shazam Encore lets you comment on your friends’ tags and see what they’re tagging with Shazam Friends.

There’s an improved Tag result design that lets you see artwork better, and US customers can now tag and comment on TV shows as they’re watching.

Though Shazam Encore 5.1.1 is still supported on iOS 5, Shazam Entertainment encourages everyone to upgrade to iOS 6 because the next release will no longer support older versions of Apple’s operating system.

“This release, Shazam 5.1 supports iOS 5.0 and upwards, but now iOS 6 is here, and we think it's amazing, so much so that the next version of Shazam (v6.0), will require iOS 6, so why not update now,” says the company.

“It's free and easy to update wirelessly on your phone or iPod Touch: simply open the Settings app, go to ‘General’ and then ‘Software Update.’ From offline Reading Lists to turn by turn directions, you'll love iOS 6,” reads a memo in the changelog.

Interested parties should note that previewing and buying music requires the iTunes music store, which is why customers have an obligation to check if it’s available in their country. While the previews are available courtesy of iTunes, lyrics and LyricPlay are available in the US, Canada, the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Australia, and New Zealand.
