A Modmyi forum poster reveals that the iPhone Dev Team has just released the "24kpwn LLB patch" code for a completely untethered jailbreak for owners of a second generation iPod touch. Users must patch the code themselves until the Dev Team updates PwnageTool.

“The iPod Touch [sic] 2G is now another member of the 'pwned for life' family,” the iPhone Dev Team is proud to announce. “It has a fatal flaw in its bootrom that means you will always be able to pwn these devices no matter what firmware updates come along,” the team explains. “This is the full, untethered jailbreak, something that iPod Touch [sic] 2G users have not had before today [...] to all those iPod Touch [sic] 2 G users out there who waited so patiently through all the various incarnations of the jailbreak for Apple’s latest device - welcome to the family! For the rest of us, the jailbreak 'cat and mouse' game will continue in the summer with the next iPhone. And the carrier unlock 'cat and mouse' game continues as ever,” the post ends.

While it is interesting to note that the iPhone Dev Team is also quite sure Apple is rolling out a new iPhone, this is not the point here. The point is that the raw patch to the firmware that transforms the “tethered” jailbreak into an untethered one was finally released for iPod touch users. As usual...
