With the new, colorful iPod line, many Apple fans are sure to become proud owners of a 4G nano. While playing music is its main purpose, the device boasts video capabilities as well, displaying hi-res photos and videos in cover-flow and landscape view. But what do you do when you need to offload them onto your Mac? You use iPod Access, of course!

Findley Designs notes that, as an iPod owner, “you have probably realized that the iPod stores photos in ithmb files.” While the iPod deals with these files without any trouble, they can't be viewed or edited with regular photo programs. This is where iPod Access Photo comes in and saves the day. Using the program, you can select individual photos and albums to be moved back on your computer, or a different storage device, even an external one.

Touted as the “the premier application for copying photos from your iPod or iPhone to your Mac,” iPod Access Photo boasts dozens of extra features, such as:

- Disable iTunes Photo Sync;
- Automatically uses highest resolution available;
- View Photos by Album;
- Full Size preview in application;
- Copy all your photos with one click;
- Easy to use interface;
- Support for Multiple iPods;
- Override photo names;
- Preserve original photo date.

With version 1.6 out in the wild, Findley Designs has added support for Apple's latest-released iPod (the 4G nano), as well as improved photo cropping, improved photo resolution stats display, faster application load times and an array of bug fixes.

iPod Access Photo is a Universal app, good for both Intel and PPC Macs, and is compatible with Tiger and Leopard. Besides the 4G nano recently added as a supported device, iPod Access Photo also supports iPhone and iPod touch, as well as Apple's iPod classic and video iPod.

Those interested in moving music and videos off their iPod and onto their Mac should also look into Findley Designs' iPod Access. The application allows instant access to all the songs on an iPod or iPhone. Version 4.2.4 is a $8.95 upgrade for all iPod Access v1.x, v2.x and v3.x users. Current v4.x users do not need a new serial number. If this is you, all you have to do is just download and install.
