Including the update / restore file for fourth-gen iPod nanos

Apple iPhone or iPod owners looking to download the latest software version for their device must look no further, as Softpedia has got them covered. While iPod touch owners are required to pay for their firmware updates, the same rules don't apply for iPhone owners, or owners of other iPod models. So, if you’re looking for an update / restore .ipsw file to use with your device, you might be in luck.

Earlier this month, the iPhone Dev Team confirmed that its updated PwnageTool application supported all iPhone models and three iPod touch SKUs for the purpose of jailbreaking. For those owning iPhones and enjoying the benefits of an unlocked / jailbroken device, additional downloads are necessary, including IPSW files.

However, Softpedia doesn’t condone jailbreaking, while these IPSW downloads are, otherwise, available free of charge. If one ever finds that they need to restore their device using an IPSW file and have no Internet connection, perhaps they should keep the appropriate IPSW update / restore file for their device close by (available for download at the bottom of the article).

In order to use one of these IPSWs, simply fire up iTunes with your device connected to your computer, choose your device from the left pane, and select Restore, holding down the Option (Alt) key. Just select the appropriate IPSW file from the location the file has been saved to on your hard drive, and let iTunes do the rest. Remember to always keep a backup of your iPhone’s / iPod’s contents before attempting to restore from an IPSW file.
