Apple is showing the device in action everywhere...

Some time ago, there were reports of massive iPhone displays being prepped for Apple and AT&T stores, displays that would show live demos of the device and would require their own power and network connection. Now, it looks like these displays have finally surfaced and they are as impressive as the initial reports made them out to be.

Apple Store has been getting new window displays for the debut of the iPhone on the 29th of June. The new displays look like huge iPhones, with working displays, suspended in mid-air. Consisting of a LCD TV screen within a plastic casing and powered by their own dedicated Mac Pro, the displays mimic an actual iPhone operation. The displays are suspended in front of white backgrounds with a black Apple logo and the words 'iPhone,' and 'Coming June 29th.'

Following in the steps of the TV commercials, the displays simply show the device in action. There seems to be little need for anything else as the iPhone simply sells itself. Much like the "iPhone. A Guided Tour" video that Apple recently released, the company is focusing on showing the device in action, because the key feature of the iPhone is usability, something that can only be judged by seeing. Competitor devices are being touted as being able to do everything that the iPhone does and while this might be true from a features-only point of view, there is a big difference between how the iPhone does music and the Internet and how other devices do it. There's more to it than just playing an MP3 or typing in a URL.

The iPhone displays may be unconventional, but they are nevertheless impressive. The only thing to make them better would be if they actually changed orientation to accommodate widescreen Cover Flow and movie playback. With the iPhone launch now being just a few scant days away it will be interesting to see if Apple pulls anything else out of their hat.
