Apple’s online store has added the Square Credit Card Reader as an offering for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad customers who want to accept credit cards. Shipping is estimated at under 24 hours. The hardware costs just $9.95.

In fact, the Mac maker advertises the solution as being the simplest way for individuals and businesses to accept credit card payments, as it allows them to just plug the reader into the device, swipe and let the companion Square app do the rest.

There is a 2.75% fee per transaction, but there are no complicated contracts or monthly fees, and it’s easy to sign up for and use, Apple says.

“Square is a revolutionary service that allows you to accept credit cards, using a reader that plugs into your iPod touch (4th generation), iPhone 4, or iPad along with a free easy-to-use app,” reads the description over at Apple’s online store.

“There's no need for complicated contracts, monthly fees, or merchant accounts. All you pay is 2.75% per transaction. You can download the free app from the App Store,” the advertisement reads on.

Apple doesn’t stop here. As with any product that sells through its online store, a list of highlights goes as follows:

- Use with free app for your iPod touch (4th Gen.), iPhone 4, and iPad - Accept U.S.-issued Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover cards - Flat rate of 2.75% per transaction with any approved card - Plug in your reader and start accepting cards - Track sales, tips, and tax - Send receipts electronically - Daily deposit to your bank account - Receive $10 instantly when you activate your Square account

The Square Credit Card Reader is not available for those outside U.S. borders.

However, it may become Internationally available soon, should the solution prove as successful as some believe it will be.
