Singer Gary Go is set to perform live this summer at Wembley Stadium, using an iPhone with music apps installed on it. Gary (real name Gary Baker) has written the majority of his songs on the iPhone, using several of the many different music-making apps available in the App Store. A special track called Superfuture will reportedly have its debut at a free gig at Apple's Regent Street store tonight.

Gary's live performance supports Take That on their tour, therefore is set to open for them at the Wembley Stadium this July. He will be playing his iPhone instead of guitars and drums. "I think it's pretty amazing that I'm going to be using a mobile phone on stage at Wembley Stadium in front of so many people," Gary, who is a singer, songwriter and producer, said. "My biggest worry is that my phone will ring mid-song," he joked.

According to an EveningStandard report, Gary has already written several tracks for his first album using iPhone apps, which faithfully replicate the sound of guitars, drums, piano and horn sections, while the demos for his album have been laid down using a virtual four-track recording studio installed on his phone. Only some of his songs will be performed with a full live band, while the rest will be solely played using the iPhone.

"At this point it's quite hard to think of something I don't use the phone for," Go added. "For songwriters, it's an amazing tool, as I always have it with me. I used to phone myself and leave messages to remember ideas. Now, I can record real tracks in the park – it's great."

Stuart Dredge, of industry site Music Ally, is cited in the same report as saying, "The fact we're going to see someone playing an iPhone at Wembley is something I don't think even Apple thought would happen. The software started out as a gimmick, but now we are seeing real musicians producing real music with it. Of course, you still need talent, but the phone means you can make and record anywhere."

Remember, Gary Go will be showing off his music-making techniques to visitors of the Apple Store on Regent Street tonight. Be sure to drop us a line if you happen to stop by and see the action.
