Windows version on the way

The iPhone Dev Team has finally released the long-awaited PwnageTool, a hack app which, once installed, both unlocks the handset for carriers other than the ones Apple allows for, and jailbreaks it in order to run software otherwise incompatible with the device. A Windows version of the tool is also rushing its way onto Windows platforms.

"The 'DevTeam' would like to announce the release of the OS X version of the PwnageTool application. The team (and especially Wizdaz) have been working hard to bring you this release in as short a time as possible. The plan (4 weeks ago) was to release a Mac tool only. This was decided because of the lack of reliable Mac filesystem tools on Windows, and the fact that the task of porting them would be too time consuming," says the team.

Even more exciting, now that the pwnage tool is finally out, is the fact that devs claim it will be able to work not just with the current iPhone firmware but future software versions too. Yes, the highly anticipated firmware 2.0 too. Moreover, the iPhone Dev Team claims custom-made firmware editions that can be synched through iTunes will also be supported.

As noted above, a Windows version of the iPhone pwnage tool should also arrive onto Windows running computers any minute now. The dev team confirms: "cmw has done an almost unthinkable task and ported the almost complete Pwnage Tool to Windows in a little under a week, and we would like to thank him for this unbelievable work. He is currently in the final test stages and hopefully this should be finished within the next 24 hours (but even he needs sleep and family time occasionally!) We'll post a link as soon as the testing has finished."

The Mac version of PwnageTool weighs in at 23MB. It is a free download.

Softpedia doesn't condone hacking, jailbreaking your iPhone/iPod touch or any other device for that matter. Using hacks may render your device unusable. Choosing to download and install the PwnageTool is at your own risk.
