To be or not to be...

It's not like it's iPhone's birthday, but in February next year the Apple phone will have a little present: its own external GPS module; and also: the GPS device that will "match" the Google maps application, which is already in works. Even more, the real prototype is available.

The much expected iPhone was launched in June 29th and was promised to be a revolutionary new mobile phone. Of course, this gadget can also automatically synch all your contacts from a PC, Mac, or Internet service. But, the wonders of this phone won't stop here, even if it has its flaws. That's why in order to get this GPS receiver running, you must do a few changes.

This device will be functional once you get your iPhone jail broken. Yes, it sounds a bit "illegal", and it kinda is. Since the Apple motto is "If you want our hardware, you must use our software", there is no application approved by Apple, so this could be an "alien application".

Then again, why not try this one since the iPhone is capable of this kind of stuff? We surely don't want you to unlock and jail broke your iPhone, but like this, you will probably discover what this gadget can do.

The key features of this application are the 20 channels, the position accuracy of 2.5m-7m, the update rate of 1 sample/second, the acquisition time: Hot: 4 Seconds, Cold: 45 seconds, Indoor: "let's say... long enough", the serial Output: TTL Serial at 9600 band, the charging meaning an integrated micro-USB connector for pass through the iPhone charging, the protocol Support: NMEA 0183 version 2.3.

What you can get for now is a prototype, but because nothing is certain we're pretty sure that this will change in time, evolving maybe into something else. And all these things are made by Part Foundry. At this point, you will be the one to decide if you want this GPS application or not...
