Hacker modifies Dev Team's QuickPwn jailbreak tool to break OS 3.0 chains

The people at Modmyi have confirmed that a Russian hacker going by the name of Vortex has a beta version of the OS 3.0 jailbreak up for grabs. The software is packed with ICY alone (instead of Cydia) and is found inside the Windows version of QuickPwn – the work of the iPhone Dev Team. The beta, although confirmed as a working jailbreak tool, hasn't been approved by the iPhone Dev Team.

“Russian hacker Vortex has released a beta version of a 3.0 Jailbreak,” reads a post over at the Modmyi forum. “It is packaged in the Dev Team's windows [sic] Quickpwn software and reportedly works on the iPhone 1st gen, iPhone 3g [sic], and iPod Touch 1st gen. It unfortunately does not install Cydia instead it only installs Icy. However you can install SSH via Icy and then install Cydia manually. On the plus side the download is only 3.2 mb [sic] because it is only packaged with Icy.”

The post continues with the author outlining that users having the smallest doubt about the security of the software are not encouraged to use this beta jailbreak. Let alone that Softpedia doesn't approve jailbreaking, this will not unlock your iPhone 3G. Moreover, it upgrades the baseband, so unlocking will be more difficult in the future, should you jailbreak the 3.0 beta.

As usual...

Softpedia doesn't condone jailbreaking / unlocking the iPhone / iPod touch or any other device. This article has a purely informational purpose and doesn't, in any way, suggest that users should jailbreak their Apple device. Using hacks may render your device unusable, or may considerably reduce the quality of your experience using the respective device. If you choose to download and install jailbreak tools, you will do so at your own risk. Unlocking / Jailbreaking your iPhone may violate your warranty or the EULA with Apple and/or your cellular service provider.
