Alongside the slew of updates recently posted by Apple, the third iPhone OS 3.0 and SDK betas have now been confirmed by developers receiving the update from Apple. According to a forum post, Apple seeded iPhone 3.0 beta 3 firmware (build 7A280f) yesterday evening to those registered in the iPhone Developer Program, along with an updated version of the iPhone Software Development Kit (SDK).

With the latest release of the software, Apple has updated Xcode IDE, the Interface Builder, as well as Dashcode, with tons of tweaks, enhancements and code corrections. According to a post over at the Modmyi forums, things to note about iPhone SDK 3.0 Beta 3 include:

Spotlight now saves last search. “Applications targeting devices prior to iPhone OS 3.0 beta cannot be tested in this seed. This bug is intended to be fixed in a future seed.” MMS and tethering still possible with modified carrier bundle. Speed improvements. YouTube works. iPod icon aligned. You can change the homepage you want to go to on double tap. Parental controls add In-App Purchase and Location options.

The full changelog for iPhone SDK 3.0 Beta 3 can be found here.

“With a rich set of over 1,000 new APIs, iPhone SDK for iPhone OS 3.0 beta provides you with an amazing range of technologies to enhance the functionality of your iPhone and iPod touch applications,” Apple said, addressing the vast developer community upon the initial release of iPhone 3.0 beta. “New APIs also provide support for applications to communicate with hardware accessories attached to iPhone or iPod touch.”

In order to download the iPhone SDK 3.0 Beta 3, you need to log in with your Apple ID. You must be enrolled in the iPhone Developer Standard or Enterprise Program to access the development resources for iPhone OS 3.0 beta, according to Apple. One last requirement is Mac OS X 10.5.5 (or later) to be able to use iPhone SDK 3.0 beta 3.
