iPhone Going Swiss – 32GB 3G Version Rumored

- Swisscom to be among the first operators to offer the 3G iphone

By: Florin Troaca, Communications News Editor

The availability of Apple's iPhone in Switzerland is as official as it gets, since there's even a tiny page on Swisscom's website (click here to view it) dedicated to the upcoming launch. What's not official yet is whether or not Apple's handset will come in its original 2.5G edition or in the new, unreleased yet, 3G one.

According to recently surfaced rumors, the iPhone will come to Switzerland not only with 3G capabilities, but also in two versions, a 16GB one and a 32GB one. Even more, Apple's little touchscreen wonder will (apparently) also go through a serious change of look, as a post made on the Siwsscom forum says the 32GB handset will be available in three colors: white, black and silver.

The same source reports the 16GB iPhone will have a retail price of 659 Swiss francs (around $630 or 410 Euro), while the 32GB one will come for 799 Swiss francs ($760 or 500 Euro).

Mobile users will get the chance to buy the above mentioned versions of iPhone starting the second half of June, when Swisscom should make them available via its website, as well as via its retail stores across Switzerland. Moreover, Apple will apparently open two of its own shops, in Zurich and Geneva, where the iPhone should also be available for purchase. Of course, as in any other market where Apple didn't get the chance to officially launch the iPhone, the device can already be bought, but only on the "grey market", unlocked and not quite legally.

Currently the largest mobile operator in Switzerland (with more than 4 million subscribers), Swisscom is the logical choice for Apple's iPhone distribution in the small central European country. We'll see this summer if the carrier is indeed the first to offer the 3G iPhone, or if the speculations are only based on untrue rumors.
