Unlocked iPhones are threatened again

The UK iPhone release will also bring the latest firmware update from Apple, version 1.1.2. If anything like the previous one, this update will again disable third party applications and brick unlocked handsets.

Some lucky reviewers had the chance of testing the iPhone version that will be released in the UK. They noticed the fact that the handset comes packed with a new firmware update which also brings some software improvements. There are high chances that this update will be available for the rest of the world as well, just after the UK launch of Apple's phone.

The reviewers found support for dozens of languages, including French and German, with special keyboard lay-outs on the ready to tackle accented characters. It's only natural that Apple resorted to this, as the mobile phone is heading towards a major release at a global scale in the near future.

The iPhone will also have access to WiFi hotspots, which will let UK customers browse the Internet and download tunes using the iTunes WiFi store, all for free. That sounds great, although people with unlocked devices will have to balance the advantages and decide whether this update is truly worth the risk of having their iPhone re-locked or not.

There are high chances for hackers to unlock the handset for the third time, if necessary. They have done it before and at a fast pace too, which makes us think that they will eventually succeed this time as well.

Hopefully, Apple will have some more appealing new features to pack into the iPhone in order to determine people to install this new update. GPS would be great, although UK reviewers noticed nothing of that kind. The iPhone will be released on the 9th of October in the UK, along with the new firmware update.
