Last week, I spoke about the manufacturers that will put together the iPhone, hopefully be June, as announced. I was saying then the names that are likely to win the manufacturers competition are Hon Hai for assembling, Samsung for its NAND memory, Marvell for supplying the iPhone's 802.11 wireless connectivity, Catcher Technology for the iPhone casing, Micron for its camera, CSR for Bluetooth chip-sets, Intel (or Japanese Renesas) for the CPU.

News today from Italy claims Micron Technology will definitely be manufacturing the iPhone's two-megapixel camera sensor (according to a report from setteB.IT). The camera will be a 30 fps (frame per second) device, about .25 inch large across the diagonal. It was estimated by iSuppli at around 11 US dollars per sensor, but the report says it's in the $5-$7 price range.

Micron's semiconductor manufactory in Avezzano is Apple's only provider for the iPhone camera sensor and the report says Apple has already placed initial orders for between 2,000 and 3,000 wafers per week.

The plant at Avezzano is specialized in the CMOS (Complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor), 70 percent of the production is focused on this technology.

The per-component calculated price for iPhone is around $280. The iPhone will be sold by the Cupertino-based company for $499 (4GB model) or $599 (8GB model). About $280 per sold iPhone will enter manufacturers' pockets, while the rest will be solely Apple's profit. And it looks like Micron is a confirmed beneficiary of $5 to $7 per iPhone.
