In an eBay user's imagination

iPhone is surely one of the most awaited Apple products because it was recently announced and scheduled for June 2007. The product was first presented on January 9, 2007 Apple's CEO Steve Jobs sustaining the product will be available for shipping in June 2007. It seems like June is already here for an eBay user who thinks he can earn some extra money by tricking the Apple fans waiting for the handheld device.

The user rgonzales23455 with 0 feedback messages (!) posted a message on the online action site, trying to sell 6 iPhones for more than $1000. "Please note: I have 6 of these phones available for immediate shipping.. I accept Paypal only for this auction.. Free shipping via USPS Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation.. Will ship immediately after payment clears Monday - Friday. Any questions on the product check out the Apple website.." the user sustained in the description of the product.

At this time, there are 23 bids for the imaginary iPhone while the winning user is a member who offered $1.125. Ok, so it's obvious the announcement is a fake and the seller tries to earn some money with ease, but how are the na?ve users protected? Well, they're probably not safe at all but I really believe that a user who bids for an Apple iPhone knowing the product isn't officially announced deserves to lose his money.

So, what can the companies do to protect the potential vulnerable users? Which one is the guilty firm, Apple or eBay? Probably, Apple should report the problem to eBay that must remove the bid and ban the account. And maybe rgonzales23455, the eBay member, deserves to be investigated by the authorities because I really think this is not a legal, or at least fair, way to earn money.
