iPrivus, a new iPhone application, helps identify who just called you, allowing you to make better decisions about handling missed calls from numbers you do not recognize. The app has been developed by Privus Mobile. The American Mobile Caller ID provider decided to take its cellular technology and create an application “for America’s most popular phone, the Apple iPhone.”
The company claims iPrivus is the fastest, easiest and most accurate reverse caller lookup application on the market. Basically, it works like this: someone calls you, and you miss that call. When you get around to checking your phone, you realize you've been called by someone whose number is not known to you. You then fire up iPrivus, input the complete phone number and hit “lookup.” The app will consequently look up the number and see who is behind it. That's it! Additionally, iPrivus can verify unknown calls on your home or business landline phones, as well as numbers received via text message that carrier Caller ID services do not identify.
“Whether you screen calls on your iPhone or just ignore them, that same question pops up every time you see a number without a name,” Privus Mobile President Greg Smith said. “How many times have you stared at a telephone number and asked yourself, ‘Whose number is this?’ iPhone users now have an answer to that question. We’ve taken our innovative Mobile Caller ID technology and created iPrivus – a helpful iPhone App for anyone who’s ever received a phone call and wondered who it could be. Whether it’s calling an old friend back, ignoring an old flame or choosing to block a telemarketer, iPrivus lets you decide what to do with the numbers you don’t initially recognize.”
iPrivus customers can purchase a year’s subscription by downloading the iPrivus app currently available in the App Store. It comes with a license agreement, which readers are strongly encouraged to go through before buying the 50-dollar app. iPrivus also works on iPod touches that are connected to a Wi-Fi network. A video demonstration of iPrivus working its magic can be watched below.
Unfortunately, Apple is so proprietary about their call feature (to make sure you stay with AT&T) that they don't let you have any access to the calling controls. You can't do this real-time on iPhone like you can on Blackberry or Windows Mobile.
Do you still have a home phone? You know all those "Unavailable" and "Out of Area" responses you get with your Calling Name service that you're paying $95.40 - $143.40 /yr for? This application will actually get you a name back.
It goes beyond what the free and or cheaper apps would do and returns what's actually in the telecom databases. You're paying for a premium service so you get premium data. Not Whitepages stuff that's 3 years out of date. Not "Out of Area" stuff that your home phone local company chooses not to provide to you because they're cheapskates.
If you want the out-of-date stuff and don't care about getting a response on 90% of the numbers, go with the free app. But, if you actually want real quality responses for MUCH less than what your home phone service costs, and more access to more data, then this is the app for you.
