Re-igniting iPhone nano / iPhone mini rumors, a person visiting an Apple retail store yesterday was reportedly talked out of a purchase by the salesmen who implied that today’s announcements could make her change her mind.

The story comes from Cultofmac reader Lovell, who said “I had a friend go to apple today to purchase an iPhone 4.”

“The salesmen talked her out of buying it and told her to come back tomorrow,” Lovell continued. “Would not say what was coming out tomorrow but said she would be verry happy.”

“I ask what it could be phone wise because she said I don’t want a white iPhone but yet the salesmen still wouldn’t say,” the story ends.

Let’s break down the facts.

1. The “friend” (the female customer looking to buy herself an iPhone 4) only intended to buy the black version of Apple’s popular smartphone - she never implied preferring the unreleased White version and even specified to the salesmen that she didn’t want that model.

2. The Apple retail staffer (or staffers, according to the story) reportedly told the customer to ‘come back tomorrow’, as in today, March 2. Today, Apple is holding a press event that is actually focused on the iPad, though other announcements are also expected.

3. The salesmen relinquished an iPhone 4 purchase, potentially jeopardizing their jobs - in case this person would later divulge the location of the store and the time of her visit, thus giving away the identities of the salesmen on shift that day - but refused to say why.

Needless to point out, the story doesn’t sound very convincing, but it wouldn’t be the first time an Apple retail employee gave away the upcoming release of a new Apple product.

All will be revealed in good time, with Apple’s event just hours away.
