Apple is prepping two new iPhone models for 2015

Apple’s current iPhone products are a little behind resolution-wise, compared to the mobile industry’s standard. Most flagships being launched these days offer 2K resolution (2,560 x 1,440 pixels), but the latest iPhone 6 models haven’t been following this trend. Not until now, anyway.

The iPhone 6 is currently sporting a resolution of 1,334 x 750 pixels, while the iPhone 6 Plus boasts 1920 x 1080 pixels res. Well, the latest batch of rumors coming from China claim that with its 2015 models, Apple is expected to make quite a jump in this particular department.

If the rumor turns out to be true, we’re going to see the iPhone 6s arrive with a 4.7-inch display with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, while the larger model, the one with a 5.5-inch screen, will take advantage of the current industry standard, meaning 2K resolution.

Apple's next iPhone models might boast advanced resolution

However, at this point, it doesn’t seem too likely that Apple will increase the resolution on its iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus to such an extent. And this statement has a pretty logical explanation.

At the moment, most of the applications in the App Store bundle graphic setups 100% compatible with the displays of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and an abrupt shift in resolution will not bring any benefit to users.

If Apple does indeed choose to increase the standard, older applications will look odd on screen. On top of that, the Cupertino tech giant might not want to give developers more hurdles.

Surely, apart from this, Apple would also be faced with hardware problems, as it would need to implement more advanced GPUs capable of sustaining this advanced resolution.

We’re not saying iPhones with 2K displays might never become a reality, just that it might take Apple more time to develop them.

In related news, Apple’s 2015 iPhone models are expected to take advantage of a next-gen A9 chip, which will be manufactured by the company’s Arch rival Samsung.

Furthermore, Cupertino will offer 2GB of RAM on board and a 12MP camera will don the front of the phones. The iPhone 6 Plus is also rumored to be taking advantage of sapphire glass.
