According to a new report from Taiwan, Apple will continue to equip its next generation of iPhones with fingerprint sensors made by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).

The chip maker will reportedly employ a 65nm process to make the sensors, while production is expected to start around summer, which puts the iPhone 6 on track for an autumn release. DigiTimes cites the usual, unnamed “industry sources.”

“Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) reportedly will begin producing fingerprint sensors for Apple's next-generation iPhone at its 12-inch fab using a 65nm process in the second quarter of 2014, according to industry sources.”

The same report suggests that TSMC will prioritize the production of fingerprint sensors for Apple by shifting some of its orders over to its partners.

The company is said to be preparing a completely redesigned iPhone for 2014, but it seems at least one part will be transitioned over from the iPhone 5s.
