Every smartphone manufacturer is bragging about their technologies and having a bigger display was always the point of Apple's competition. Now that the iPhone is larger, others are talking about how having a big display is not everything and having the best is more important.

Sure enough, everyone agrees that a good display technology is important, so DisplayMate went on to test the existing ones. Display Mate is an industry standard for optimizing, calibrating, testing and comparing all types of displays.

iPhone 4 revolutionized the displays

Their latest subjects were iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Their long and elaborated verdict deserves a proper read, but we're only going to analyze the most important aspects of it. First of all, DisplayMate admits that the iPhone 4 was the most famous innovation because of the Retina display. Back then, they say, the competition was left in the dust.

The innovation slowed with the next years models, but with the iPhone 6, Apple is not only catching up, but they also managed to get up to date and to go over the standards of their competition. DisplayMate praises the iPhone because it has the most accurate mobile displays they have ever measured. As a comparison, the display of the iPhone 6 is even more accurate than the TV ones.

When it comes to brightness and performance in high ambient lighting, the iPhone reflectance is close to the lowest value they have ever measured.

More power with the same battery

Another important aspect of the new displays is related to power efficiency. Apple has included a panel that is the most power efficient available. It is 10 percent more power efficient than the Full HD LCD smartphones. When compared to the OLED display found in the Galaxy Note 4, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus's displays are 45 percent more power efficient. Therefore, you should not care about the capacity of the battery when it comes to specs.

DisplayMate believes that Apple has addressed some old issues besides increasing the size of the screen. They name the iPhone 6 Plus as the Best performing Smartphone LCD display that they ever tested. The device has consistent all around Top Tier display performance. The iPhone 6 Plus has the second smartphone display to ever get very good or excellent ratings since 2006.

The iPhone 6's display, on the other hand, matches or breaks new records in LCD smartphone display performance for a good number of factors.

The experts at DisplayMate believe that the new iPhones are the best in the LCD displays category, while the Samsung S5 and Note 4 are the best in OLED displays category.
