Who would have thought the glass will break?

From the department of "I'm too rich so I can afford to buy an iPhone and break it," here comes a new video of the iDevices that are taken through the usual drop test. Sure enough, this is nothing scientific.

It's not like the guy is using special measurement tools or anything that will test the iPhone dropping on different surfaces and from different height levels. But if your thing is seeing an iPhone screen getting shattered, read on and watch the video.

Gravity at work

But before we get there, let's take a look at the first iPhone 6 drop test. It came from a kid who bought his iPhone in Sidney, Australia. He was the first in line so he got to be on TV. While he opened the iPhone box, because he was holding it on its side he dropped the phone.

This video comes from YouTube user PhoneBuff. He takes the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and drops them on their back, side and the screen. From about 1 meter (3 feet) above the ground. The back test didn't cause any problems to the devices. And so did the side drop for iPhone 6. However, the iPhone 6 Plus had its first ugly crack on the screen.

The last test was the screen drop. Who would have thought a glass screen will be shattered?

How to protect your iPhone

As usual, we recommend the best solution to take care of your screen. You can either buy a good silicon or leather case that will keep the phone together and protect the sides as well as the back. The Apple one is good enough and if you want a classic great case you can choose the Incipio NGP, one from Incase or the tough ones from OtterBox.

You second option is to purchase the AppleCare+ protection plan. For $99 (€76.86) you get hardware repair coverage for the iPhone. If, for some reason, your screen gets cracked, you can go into a store and have it replaced for just $79. This is a few hundred less than a regular screen replacement.

Good news is that you can do that twice a year. So for the price of a fancy case, you can just wear your phone without an accessory and get it fixed in case you drop it. This protection plan also includes your accessories. So you can get your battery, EarPods replacements or repairs for free. It will also get you the first in line for software issues so you can learn how to use your phone properly.

And last, the best way to avoid cracking your screen is to take good care of it. After all you just paid a few good hundreds of dollars. And talking about videos like this one, there's only one other demonstration that is more ridiculous: shooting the iPhone with a real gun to see how much damage the bullet makes.
