New dummy phone leaked on Baidu could look closest to reality yet

China’s Baidu today yields a new batch of physical iPhone 6 mockups, this time in silver, possibly showing the rough end-version of the handset. The photos are consistent with previous leaks, meaning it is likely based on the same schematics obtained weeks ago by Japan’s MacFan.

A set of five images depicting the same iPhone 6 dummy from different angles shows that Apple will continue to use antenna windows/cutouts at the top and bottom of the phone, meaning at least one characteristic will be ported over from the iPhone 5/iPhone 5s.

The form factor is bigger, lending credence to rumors regarding a larger display. This dummy phone supposedly replicates the 4.7-inch version of the handset. A 5.5-inch variant is also planned for launch, some say.

Because of the more rounded corners of the iPhone 6, Apple seems to be moving the jack plug closer to the Lightning port, eliminating one of the grills in the process. The Sleep/Wake/Power button is also being relocated, according to various leaks. The mockups from today reflect this change.

Interestingly, the dummy phone purports to be a finished version of the handset, complete with a plastic foil covering the screen, but lacking the Apple logo on the back. It’s hard to believe Apple will forego its iconic logo for the next-generation handset.

The camera module sticks out a bit and is surrounded by a metal ring, in line with other recent leaks. The LED flash is round.

Despite this potentially being a fake, this item seems to be the most elaborate iPhone 6 physical mockup created to date. Along with the silver finish, this dummy phone may well be the closest thing to a real iPhone 6.

Speculation aside, Apple is known to have prepared this upgrade for the second half of the year. It is as of yet uncertain whether the company plans to announce the handset at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference in June or wait until later. In the past two years, it announced new iPhones in the September-October timeframe.

Rumor has it that the iPhone 6 will be priced $100 (roughly €72) higher than its predecessor, while Apple is said to be talking to wireless operators to convince them that this is the way to go with the new device. With subsidies, the iPhone 6 would theoretically sell for $299 (around €215).
