Somewhat stating the obvious, metrics firm Citrix reveals in a newly-published study that iPhone 6 Plus users consume twice the amount of data compared to their iPhone 6 brethren, and make 10 times more Internet traffic than iPhone 3GS users (used to) draw.

The Mobile Analytics Report looks at a lot of aspects regarding the smartphone industry today, including what apps people like to use and at what time of the day, how much video they consume on their respective devices, various data points regarding each vendor’s share in key areas of the market, etc.

2x more than iPhone 6, 10x more than iPhone 3GS

On the topic of data consumption, looking solely at the iPhone range of smartphones, Citrix reveals that people who use a phablet like the iPhone 6 Plus are responsible for much more traffic than those who use a regular smartphone, like the 4.7-inch iPhone 6.

The firm reveals in a handy infographic that iPhone 6 Plus generates double the data volume of iPhone 6, something that “impacts subscribers when choosing a new device,” Citrix says, referring to the data plan.

The firm actually cautions that those who are considering to buy an iPhone 6 Plus should also carefully review their data plan options.

“Clearly the phablet sized iPhone 6 Plus shows data usage patterns more akin to tablet usage. For mobile operators, this increase provides an opportunity to shift subscriber Wi-Fi usage towards mobile networks,” Citrix notes.

The chart also mentions the iPhone 3GS, and how the latest iPhones draw 10 times more traffic than the 2009 iPhone.

According to the report, iOS continues to dominate the enterprise market. Android is also growing in the Asia-Pacific area, likely due to Samsung’s large presence in the region. In the EMEA region, device diversity is more visible. Even Windows phones have made their presence felt with 16% share.
