One-minute clip purportedly shot at an “Apple factory”

A strange piece of footage landed on YouTube today showing what appears to be a smartphone case made from Liquidmetal, with the uploader claiming it to be an actual iPhone 6 chassis.

Dubbed “iPhone 6 Parts,” the clip is 52 seconds long and was shot in an “Apple factory,” possibly Foxconn or Pegatron.

The video shows a unibody-constructed smartphone shell that seems to be made from Liquidmetal, a material which Apple fancies and has rights to use.

So far, the company has employed this amorphous metal alloy only in small applications, such as the SIM card ejector tool that ships with every iPhone.

The clip is tantalizing to say the least. While the design of the chassis certainly falls in line with existing Apple hardware, its construction appears to be of very poor quality, suggesting it might be a Chinese knockoff.

However, this appearance could also be caused by the poor picture quality. This could well be the first solid iPhone 6 leak to hit the web, but we’re not convinced.

The frame of the chassis appears to be much wider and taller than that of current iPhone models, which would support rumors that Apple this year is finally going big.

Minutes ago we reported on the latest industry chatter (via WSJ) involving two all-new iPhone models coming out this year with big displays, one as big as five inches on the diagonal. Apple’s current spec is four inches.

A bigger iPhone could mean a complete redesign of the handset, and this leak certainly supports this theory as well.

For example, the camera placement seems to be different on this frame (more towards the center). But that’s enough speculation on our part. We’re dying to hear what you guys think. See the clip and the gallery below and leave your mark in the comments.
