American retailer slashes $70 off the original retail price

If you’re looking to treat yourself to a brand new iPhone 6 but you’re $70 (€56) short, we’ve got some terrific news for you. Starting today, you can grab a 16GB iPhone 6 for minus that amount at Walmart.

There’s no catch or hidden fees, but you do need to be eligible for an upgrade and to sign a brand new two-year contract, which is what you’re going to do anyway if you want the subsidy that goes with Apple’s pricey handsets.

iPhone 6 for just $129

Living near a Walmart store has its advantages. Especially if you’re out to buy a new smartphone. The retailer is officially selling the iPhone 6 with a two-year wireless contract with your preferred carrier (except for T-mobile) for $129 (€104), which means you get to save $70 (€56).

The prices for other models run accordingly: iPhone 6 Plus for $229 (€184) and iPhone 5s for just $49 ($39).

T-mobile apparently isn’t in the mix, but you can get that two-year contract with AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon, and all three colors are available. Note that the offer isn’t available online. So, what you need to do is get your carcass off the couch, put on a coat, and proceed to the nearest Walmart store.

Apparently, there’s no way to get the same discount for models with higher storage capacities, so if you were dreaming to own the 64GB or the 128GB model, you’d better rearrange your priorities.

Availability

We can’t know for sure how many iPhones Walmart has in stock at its various stores across the United States, but one thing we do know is that Apple itself is having major trouble coping with demand.

If you try to order one today through store.apple.com, the Cupertino giant offers a 3-to-5-day window during which you can expect the device to arrive at your door. That’s three-to-five business days, which means if you factor in the weekend, you can end up waiting for a full week.

That’s still preferable if you’re looking to have one (or more) under the tree this year. There’s a good chance these babies will be even more out of reach as we approach Christmas, even though Apple’s manufacturers should be improving their yield rates day by day.
