One way you can pay less for a brand new iPhone is to trade-in your old one with the people at Gazelle. They’ve made a business around swapping old devices for newer ones at smaller prices, and even Apple is following their example. RadioShack is no stranger to this business model either.

With the Worldwide Developers Conference just around the corner, both Gazelle and RadioShack have announced deals that shave more dollars off the purchase of a new iPhone 5s. You can get one for as little as $79 ($58) with a two-year wireless contract, and the 5c is even cheaper – only $29 (€21).

Gazelle specializes in trade-ins, so what they’re doing is they’re giving customers a $20 (€15) premium on any iPhone trade-in until June 6, which is precisely when WWDC ends. Do these people know something we don’t? Why are they doing this now?

The answer is simple. Both Gazelle and RadioShack are considering the possibility that Apple will announce the iPhone 6 at WWDC, which would immediately drop the prices for all existing iPhone models. At the very least, the two companies have been hearing rumors that Apple might begin offering a cheaper 8GB iPhone 5s. In any case, these guys seem keen on making a few extra dollars before the hardware officially becomes obsolete.
