Sketchy images purportedly show a metal frame designed for a new iPhone

Apple this year is about to rewrite history by releasing what is said to be a totally redesigned version of iPhone. Some reports say that there will be two new devices rolling out, and that both will allegedly have bigger screens.

That’s all we knew until recently, when two strange photos emerged purporting to show the metal frame of one of these new iPhone models.

Bearing no resemblance whatsoever to the unibody design of the iPhone 5s chassis, the part depicted in C Technology’s leak doesn’t seem to fit Apple’s product line, but we cannot rule it out either.

The poor-quality construction shown in these images is probably the main reason behind the skepticism shared by various Apple-centric blogs and IT sites. However, if legitimate, the part would at least support rumors of Apple equipping its new iPhones with bigger screens.

Other hints that the hardware doesn’t belong to Apple are found in the arrangement of various port openings, such as the jack plug seemingly making a return to the top side of the device.

On the other hand, Apple isn’t forced to impose a high level of fit and finish for what could be a mere prototype shell. If anything, the metal part could well come from a first test batch from Chinese assembler Foxconn, Apple’s main supplier.

Rumor has it we’ll know for sure around summer, which would mark a return to Apple’s old tradition of unveiling new iPhones at its famous Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).

There is a massive amount of pressure on Tim Cook & Co. to roll out a completely redesigned iPhone this year, so whether or not these images are legitimate, something totally new is bound to hit the market one way or another.

We’ll keep you in the loop if other similar leaks emerge. In the meanwhile, we’re dying to hear what you think. The comment section awaits below.
