A new survey conducted in 35 countries shows who the real worldwide number one is when it comes to smartphone sales. Samsung Galaxy S5 takes a distant number two spot.

Counterpoint Technology Market Research has released their charts for the month of May 2014. According to their studies, the iPhone 5s continues to be the best selling smartphone in the world. The newer Samsung Galaxy S5 follows although it was released just a few months ago.

The chart shows that the following two spots are taken also by Samsung with their S4 and Note 3 models. Apple shows up again on the 5th and 6th position, with the iPhone 5c and iPhone 4s respectively.

Surprisingly, the next one up is Xiaomi MI3. On the same list, we see two other Samsung devices and one other smartphone coming from Xiaomi.

Counterpoint Technology Market Research specialists say that other devices like Sony Xperia Z1, Motorola's Moto G, Huawei Honor 3C and LG G2 made it in the top 20. Also, they expect the Nokia X to show up in the charts next month.

Back in October of 2013, Counterpoint Technology Market Research said the iPhone 5s was number one followed by the iPhone 5.

It is important to mention that these charts are based on mobile phone sales only, not shipments.
