Apple’s newest gem is blazing fast when it comes to processing an iMovie project. In fact, according to a Geekbench test, Apple’s smartphone is now officially comparable to desktop computers in processing power.

The folks at Macs Future decided to put an iPhone 5 and an iPhone 5s to the test by importing an identical iMovie project into both phones to have it rendered into a movie.

Not surprisingly, the 5s won out and by quite a margin. The results weren’t all that mind-blowing but, when you step back a little and notice that smartphones are now comparable in speed to desktop computers from 2010, things start to look more interesting.

For the curious, the iPhone 5s rendered the video in question in 1/2 the time it took for the iPhone 5 to do the same thing (the 5 even had a bit of a head start too).

“This makes sense as the Geekbench scores for the phones shows that the iPhone 5s has double the score of the iPhone 5 (see below): 2552 score to 1269,” says Macs Future.

The Geekbench result of 2552 is close to the score of the “Early 2010” version of the Mac Mini – 2572.
