Smartphone sales data from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech spanning August 2013 to October 2013 reveals that Apple’s iPhone 5c is doing more damage to competitors’ brands than initially projected.

Dominic Sunnebo, strategic insight director at Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, reveals in a report that “In almost all markets, the iPhone 5s and 5c releases have given iOS a significant bounce compared to the previous month.”

Make no mistake. The iPhone duo is mostly successful thanks to the iPhone 5s, but iPhone 5c is also doing its bit. Despite lackluster sales, the few units that did ship have managed to pull in customers who were otherwise interested in smartphones from Samsung and LG, which mostly run Android.

“The good news for Apple is that this wider appeal is attracting significant switching from competitors. Almost half of iPhone 5c owners switched from competitor brands, particularly Samsung and LG, compared with 80% of 5s owners who upgraded from a previous iPhone model,” according to Sunnebo.

Following its initial debut in key markets (the United States, Canada, the UK, Australia), iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c arrived on October 25 in Italy, Russia, Spain, and more than 25 other countries.

Calling it “the most colorful iPhone yet,” Apple has equipped the iPhone 5c with a newly-designed polycarbonate plastic shell which comes in five colors: blue, green, pink, yellow, and white.

Built on the foundation of the iPhone 5, the plastic iPhone sports the same 4-inch Retina display and A6 chip as its predecessor, as well as the same 8-megapixel iSight camera.

iPhone 5c comes with more LTE bands, a new FaceTime HD camera, and is pre-installed with iOS 7.

Waiting times for the iPhone 5c are never long, so you can waltz into your local Apple shop or visit the company’s online store and buy yours at any given time.
