Retina display to be rendered obsolete, according to the latest “leak”

A fresh rumor out of China today says the next-generation iPhone will boast a display so sharp it will even dwarf the current Retina standard. The device itself is said to undergo some changes in design.

Apple could finally deliver an S-upgrade this year that isn’t as incremental as the ones before it, according to a new rumor dished out by WeiPhone.

“Insiders” reportedly told the Chinese site that Apple plans to introduce a display that competes with the ones found on larger smartphones, but only resolution-wise.

The iPhone 5S screen will reportedly have a staggering 1.5 million pixels, or more than double the current pixel count (730,000) found on the Retina display in the iPhone 5.

The iPhone 5S itself will have a narrower bezel, but the screen size will remain capped at four inches on the diagonal, according to the sketchy rumor.

If the rumor turns out to be true, Apple would once again force application developers to rewrite their apps, while accessory makers will also need to clear out their inventories and work up new cases and screen protectors based on the new specifications.

There’s a great deal of expectation from Apple regarding its next iPhone model, as competitors are rolling out ever larger handsets with displays that seem to put the iPhone to shame.

Apple itself has maintained that increasing the screen size is a compromise that would affect single-handed use of the iPhone, as well as battery life.

However, the Cupertino giant has not dismissed the idea of a larger iPhone in the future, but rather pointed out that, until these compromises are ironed out, there will be no increase in screen size for the iPhone.

Many pundits agree that Apple needs an iPhone with a bigger screen sooner rather than later.
