Sources in the tech industry have revealed to All Things D that Apple is pushing for a September 10 unveiling of the next-generation of iPhones.

The report by the WSJ-owned tech blog states, “Apple is expected to unveil its next iPhone at a special event on Sept. 10, sources told AllThingsD.”

Apple representatives reached for comment declined to provide specifics, while the aforementioned sources had nothing more to say in regards to the planned event.

As the pressure mounts for Tim Cook to innovate, Apple is said to have prepared a biometric iPhone 5S and a polycarbonate iPhone 5C for unveiling this fall.

The former is expected to be a traditional incremental upgrade boasting at least one key differentiator, but retaining the design from the current-selling iPhone. The differentiator this time around is said to be a fingerprint sensor behind the phone’s Home button.

The latter phone is expected to be cheaper (than normal), as a result of Apple using a plastic enclosure (which incurs less manufacturing costs), and the specs of a current-generation iPhone 5.

“Naturally, any new phones will be running iOS 7, which has been in testing since its announcement at Apple’s developer conference in June,” the report adds.

Without a doubt, Apple will debut iOS 7 alongside its new iPhone line. Currently in beta testing, iOS 7 is a complete redesign of Apple’s mobile operating system, featuring a flat interface, a Control Center, a new Notification Center, an entirely new set of icons, and more.

At least one new iPad model is expected to debut at the event as well, though All Things D makes no mentioning of such an announcement.

Going by Apple’s annual upgrade cycles for iDevices, the iPad mini is next in line to receive some updated specifications, including a Retina display and a faster processor.
