The next version of Apple’s iPhone is expected to arrive on shelves with a new type of display, thinner than the existing ones. The handset is also expected to pack a larger screen, and to change the aspect ratio of the device to 16:9.

According to a recent report from the Wall Street Journal, the Cupertino-based company will include a touchscreen display packing in-cell technology on the upcoming device.

The new technology eliminates the need of an additional layer through integrating touch sensors directly into the LCD. The quality of the screen will also be improved.

According to the aforementioned news site, the new type of screen is being manufactured by Sharp, Japan Display, and LG.

Moreover, the handset will come with nano-SIM slot, further reducing its thickness. Wireless carriers around the world are already stockpiling such SIMs to prepare for the launch.
