The huge “pent up demand” for the upcoming Apple iPhone will downright “shatter” Apple’s first-day sales record of 1.7 million units sold, according to Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White. Apple’s event tomorrow is actually expected to feature two new iPhones, not just one.

White says the hype surrounding the new iPhone is much greater than that of previous Apple handsets, mainly because Apple waited until October to unveil it.

Another reason why the next iPhone will rip competition a new one is said to be the rumored addition of Sprint to the lineup of operators set to carry the iPhone. Sprint alone has over 52 million subscribers alone.

There is also talk of China Mobile being set to carry the smartphone too. The Asian operator has 628 million subscribers - more than all U.S. carriers combined.

White says Apple’s iPhone 5 will “get a complete makeover with a sleek, aluminum unibody enclosure that more closely resembles the MacBook Air than the iPhone 4.” Other specs dished out by the analyst include a 4-inch display, an 8 megapixel camera, and a modified A5 SoC that exceeds 1.2GHz.

Another analyst, Bill Choi of Janney Capital Markets, has issued his own research note to point out that (based on a theory similar to White’s) about 84 million iPhones will be sold this year alone.

Up to 107 million units are to be sold next year, said Choi.

“Apple is well positioned to capture an enormous profit pool as mobility and content worlds converge,” the analyst said, according to Cult of Mac.

Several iPhone leaks have been reported on today, all of which seem to indicate there will be more than just one device. Specifically, multiple sources claim there will be an iPhone 4S device that goes up to 64GB in storage capacity. More in the related links below.
