Blueprints offer exactly what you’d expect, making them a bit too accurate

Schematics purporting to show the iPhone 5’s final design landed in the back yard of mobilefun.co.uk, a technology site with ties to a third-party case manufacturer which corroborated the leak.

The leak brings nothing new to the table, just to get one thing out of the way. In fact, it matches previous leaks so well that one might say it’s fabricated.

Either way, this manufacturer who allegedly leaked the schematics said that he was “sure that the [...] images were accurate – so sure that he was already preparing to construct iPhone 5 cases and he’d be willing to ship replacements for free if they turned out not to be perfect,” according to the report.

The source went on to confirm for the British site that Apple’s next iPhone would, indeed, have a larger form factor with a bigger display, a smaller dock connector akin to micro USB, and a relocated earphone jack.

Here’s how the source reportedly described three major changes between the iPhone 4S and the next-generation iPhone:

- The phone is much bigger, measuring 58.47 mm wide, 123.83 mm high and 7.6 mm thin. The screen is 4″. - The earphone jack has been relocated to the bottom of the phone. - The dock connector is much smaller, similar in size to micro USB.

It’s no mystery Apple shifted the iPhone refresh cycle to fall, at least two years in a row. The iOS 6 unveiling scheduled for this autumn will most likely be accompanied by the official launch of the iPhone 5.

The only thing we can’t be sure of is the location chosen by Apple for the festivities. Most likely it’ll be held at its own auditorium on the Infinite Loop campus.

It’s not out of the question to see other iDevices upgraded this fall, including the longstanding iPod touch.
