iPhone 5 Purple Lens Flare Is a Non-Issue, Says Apple Support

An AppleCare Support representative is denying a potential issue with the iPhone 5’s camera telling a customer that the reported purple flare problem is actually normal behavior for the Apple handset.

Responding via email to a customer named Matt, a certain Deborah Thompson with AppleCareSupport said, “Our engineering team just gave me this information and we recommend that you angle the camera away from the bright light source when taking pictures.”

“The purple flare in the image provided is considered normal behavior for iPhone 5’s camera,” said the rep, following up with some info on where she can be reached.

Indeed lens flare is a common occurrence in photography, and while it’s not always as pronounced as the image above shows, it’s certainly nothing to worry about.

You actually have to point at it millimetrically, our tests have shown. And how many pictures does one take of the sun, anyway?
