Apple last year kicked off pre-orders for the iPhone 4S two days after its unveiling. This year shouldn’t be any different, sources say. And they’ve even got some new information to back their claims.

MacRumors is hearing from its sources that pre-orders may not begin today, following the ceremonious unveiling of the iPhone 5, but “on Friday morning in a scenario similar to last year’s debut.”

The rumor site has been told that some Apple sales support teams are “significantly increasing their staffing levels” starting with 6:00 AM Eastern this Friday, adding that there will be “a major surge for the initial shift beginning at that time and a sustained level of high staffing for at least the remainder of the day.”

In other words, Apple is rallying up its troops as it anticipates huge demand for the new handset on Friday.
