A source ‘within’ Apple is said to have leaked the official launch date of the iPhone 5 in New Zealand. According to the reporting site, the date is October 9 which falls inconveniently on a Sunday.

If TechDay.co.nz has invented a rumor out of thin air based on speculation that Apple’s next iPhone will launch in October, they could have at least gone through the trouble of checking with their calendars to see that October 9 falls on a Sunday - the least likely day to have a new iPhone launched.

However, if they really do have exclusive intel from a person within Apple, the timing aligns well with most analyst reports on the potential event that will see the introduction of a new handset, iOS 5, and iCloud.

Opinions on what the next iPhone will be all about are divided.

There are just as many reports saying that the next-generation iPhone 5 will be a radical overhaul as there is chatter about a slightly-altered iPhone 4S set to debut next month, or the one to follow.

Some claim it’s high time for Cupertino to direct its iPhone business to the middle-class segment with an iPhone 4S, whilst continuing to up the ante in the high-end sector with an all-new iPhone 5.

It remains to be seen whether Apple has taken Wall Street analysts’ projections seriously this time around.

It is worth noting that the source responsible with this alleged leak doesn’t have any track record of serving Apple-exclusive info, therefore readers are advised to take this with an ounce of skepticism.

While the October timeframe is indeed the most plausible one for a new iPhone launch, who’s to stop any web site / blog from dishing out purported launch dates for Apple’s next iPhone?
