Mystery chip identified as non-NFC, speaker piece looks pretty

If we keep reporting on every part of the iPhone 5 in such a revealing manner, we might end up with nothing but the screws in the hours leading up to Apple’s September 12 event. But hey, the fans are ever so hungry.

So here it is, in all its glory – the awesome, spectacular, mind-boggling (and, let’s not forget) insanely great, iPhone 5 earpiece speaker! (pictured above)

No word on whether this thing will actually sound any better than the one found in the current iPhone generation, but it’s certainly a looker.

The photo you see above stems from Sonny Dickson, a well-connected bloke who recently showed some photos of the iPhone 5’s internals. He was also able to confirm with mendmyi's Riki Baker that the mystery chip everyone said was for NFC is, in fact, nothing of the sort. Fingerprint scanning tech is also out of the question, Baker reportedly said.

So there you have it. New tidbits! Just because someone decided to peel back a flex cable and pry open a metal thingy that’s been around for days.
