How we might charge our new handsets with a traditional iPhone cable

Apple’s iPhone 5 has been rumored to include a smaller, 9-pin dock connector that will soon spread across the entire iDevice ecosystem, including the all-new (but only rumored) iPad mini.

A conceptual image released by Metablog.it shows what the iPhone 5 Dock Adapter could look like, should you ever need to power yours with a traditional iOS cable, such as the one currently boxed with the iPad and the iPhone.

Notice the headphone jack on the dock connection kit. It’s there because we know the iPhone 5 will have its headphone jack relocated to the bottom of the handset. The accessory is also envisioned wide enough for added stability and (why not?) durability.

The iPhone 5’s actual docking plug is said to be a 9-pin affair, with eight gold pins and a ninth connection seen in the metal frame surrounding the plug.
