Last week signed off with a bunch of iPhone 5 rumors that said Apple’s iPhone 5 would feature a different camera & flash placement, among other aesthetic changes.
High on the heels of Alibaba.com’s ‘iPhone 5G’ leak, Taiwanese site Apple.pro claimed to have obtained genuine photos of the camera sensors that go inside Apple’s next-generation iPhone.
Pictured side by side with current-generation hardware, both the front-facing camera and the back-facing sensor exhibit highly-visible changes, including the rumored extirpation of the LED flash.
Softpedia can confirm that some iPhone 4 handsets shoot poor pictures in low light conditions when using the flash. Images look washed out and there is a clear burst of light coming from near the lens, where the flash is situated.
It seems Apple is now trying to fix this by moving the LED flash far away from the camera sensor on its next iPhone.
The front facing camera is also a bit changed, though no technical discrepancies are immediately observable from this leak.
Apple’s next iPhone is said to be an incremental upgrade, as in the handset will not feature a completely redesigned architecture, as was the case with the upgrade from iPhone 3GS to iPhone 4.
Well connected sources say Apple will instead go for an iPhone 3G to 3GS type of refresh, consequently giving the new iPhone a ‘4S’ dubbing.
According to a new research note from Jefferies & Co, this would be the case with Apple’s new iPhone which also will emerge at more carriers this time around.
“We believe the likelihood of the iPhone 5 launch in September including LTE [Long-Term Evolution] is now remote,” Peter Misek wrote in a co-authored research note, issued May 13.
“According to our industry checks, the device should be called iPhone 4S and include minor cosmetic changes, better cameras, A5 dual-core processor, and HSPA+ [Evolved High-Speed Packet Access] support,” Misek said.
