MuscleNerd says iOS 5.0.1 may pose problems in finding a vulnerability

Due to differences in the basebands, it is more likely that an unlock exploit will be developed for iOS 5.0, rather than 5.0.1, according to Dev Team member MuscleNerd, which is why the hacker is recommending that iPhone 4S customers stick with the earlier build.

Arguably the most vocal of all iPhone Dev Team members, MuscleNerd got in touch with the people at iClarified to clarify that “an untethered iPhone 4S jailbreak for iOS 5.0 will be released at the same time as the iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak, or a day or two later.”

According to the post, “its [sic] recommended that those already on iOS 5.0.1 should check their build number and downgrade from build 9A406 to 9A405 while Apple is still signing both builds.”

Because of the differences in the basebands, the Dev Team feels it’s more likely they’ll find an unlock for the earlier build, rather than the latter.
