14 DAY TRIAL // Today is the big day for Apple fans in many markets around the world, including the UK: the new iPhone 4S went for sale.
Available via Apple's stores as well as via the company's online portal, the new device also arrived on shelves at wireless carriers in the country, users already rushed to grab it.
In the UK, wireless carriers like O2, Orange, T-Mobile, Three and Vodafone already announced plans to add the new iconic device to their offering, and today they kicked off sales.
O2, the carrier that first had the Apple iPhone on its airwaves, says that demand has been higher than for the last year's iPhone 4.
“We've sold more iPhone 4s in the first hour of launch today than we did iPhone 4 devices in the same period last year,” the wireless carrier announced via Twitter.
Unlike other carriers in the UK, O2 did not offer the iPhone 4S for pre-order, and it makes sense that sales have been great right from the start, as users certainly rushed to stores to make sure they manage to grab one device the first very day.
Orange UK has been preparing its website for the new iPhone 4S since morning. When accessing it, users would receive the “We're getting the shop ready for action. In a hurry to order your shiny new iPhone 4S?” message several hours ago, but things are back to normal now. T-Mobile also said on Twitter that they were excited to have the new device up for grabs: “It's iPhone 4S launch day! Excited?”
Three UK and Vodafone also made the new smartphone available for purchase for their customers, both via their brick-and-mortar stores, as well as online on their websites.
The new iPhone 4S lands in three flavors, priced as it follows: £499 (around $784 / 571 Euros) for the 16GB model, £599 (around $942 / 686 Euros) for the 32GB variant, and $699 (around $1,100 / 800 Euros) for the 64GB version.
However, users will be able to purchase it for less when signing a contract agreement with any of the aforementioned wireless carriers.
