Bumpers are still necessary to protect the newest iPhone model from cracks

Drop-tests carried out on the iPhone 4S and the Samsung Galaxy S II have revealed that Apple’s smartphone is in serious need of protection, whereas the Samsung device is less prone to getting its screen cracked.

The footage uploaded to YouTube by ElectronicsBreak says “iPhone 4S vs. Samsung Galaxy S II Drop Test.” After watching the clip, I’d much rather go with a title that says iPhone 4S versus its own weight, or versus concrete sidewalk.

There’s no mystery that Apple’s latest iPhones (the 4 and the 4S) boast two architectural elements that make them extremely susceptible to breaking - they’re heavy as heck and their enclosure is made of glass.

You don’t need to be a physics buff to realize what’s going to happen if you drop one of these babies waist high and shoulder high on a concrete sidewalk. But it’s damn fun to watch, I have to say.
