Verizon CFO Fran Shammo has (again) spilled the beans on the cellular technologies packed in Apple’s forthcoming iPhone model, whether it be the iPhone 5, or the incremental ‘iPhone 4S’ rumored to emerge between this summer and fall.

Reports citing Fran Shammo speaking at Reuters’ technology summit say the Verizon Chief Financial Officer confirmed a CDMA - GSM iPhone, and that LTE-related announcements will have to be made at a later date, as support for the technology is likely to be implemented in a future iPhone model.

Verizon's CFO originally confirmed this feature inside the next iPhone model during his company’s most recent quarterly earnings conference call, about a month back.

Shammo’s comments now seem to support widespread belief that Apple will announce a minor iPhone upgrade this year.

Believed to be dubbed iPhone 4S, the new handset would not be radically different compared to the current-generation model, but a mere performance upgrade with a focus on under-the-hood enhancements.

Apple this year has released powerful new hardware on the market that should be indicative of the specifications of its next-generation iPhone, which could well be the iPhone 5.

Months after Apple unveiled the iPad, which packed the new A4 processor, Apple released the hyped iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G, both of which featured the new silicon, as well as multiple other hardware upgrades.

So, if history is any indication, the A5 chip found in this year’s iPad 2 will make its way into the next-generation iPhone, regardless of whether Apple decides to call it the iPhone 4S or the iPhone 5.

An iOS 5 announcement is expected to drop at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference scheduled to kick off June 6, at Moscone West in San Francisco.

A potential release of an iOS 5 preview build may provide the necessary hints as to what new hardware is coming up next from Cupertino.
