The application greatly simplifies the upgrading process

Apple and AT&T have learned from their previous mistakes and try to make it easier for iPhone fans to get their devices as fast and simple as possible.

The latest gimmick provided by the two giants is the AT&T Upgrader application, which will soon be available as a free download from the App Store.

The application allows users who already own an iPhone to find out if they are eligible for a certain upgrade, how much they will have to pay for an iPhone 4S, and ultimately place a pre-order for the latest product in the iPhone family.

It's a bit ironic that customers with older iPhone models will be able to use their devices in order to replace them with the newer iPhone 4S.

However, customers who do not own an iPhone will still be able to pre-order the latest iPhone 4S from AT&T by heading to the carrier's dedicated website and fill out the information required.

Unfortunately, for unknown reasons, AT&T pulled the application from the App Store shortly after the carrier made it available for download.

Anyway, the AT&T Upgrader application should go live again in the App Store, so iPhone owners will be able to place their pre-orders using their devices.

In this regard, Apple announced that iPhone 4S will be available for pre-order online starting October 7 from its webstore, while deliveries will begin on October 14.

Just like the standard iPhone 4, iPhone 4S will be available in both black or white color schemes, for a suggested retail price of $199 (about 150 EUR) for the 16GB model and $299 (about 225 EUR) for the 32GB model and $399 (roughly 300 EUR) for the new 64GB model.

Currently, the iPhone 4S has been confirmed by AT&T, Sprint and Verizon Wireless in the United States, but additional operators may carry the smartphone.
