The Chronic Dev Team’s Pod2g’s is back with a new demonstration video of his untethered jailbreak progress, this time showing off the hack on the iPhone 4.

On his blog, Pod2g says “Here is a new video demo of the current status of the 5.0.1 jailbreak running on an iPhone 4.”

According to the hacker, “This is meant to reassure people that were thinking it only works on older iPods.” He claims the jailbreak is “near ready for prime time”, but not for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 with their newer A5 processors.

When it’s released, the untethered jailbreak will have the same level of stability as the iPhone Dev Team’s redsn0w, the says Pod2g, since it uses the same patches. He ends his post, saying “Some more days to wait. Be patient, we're doing our best.”

These timely updates from Pod2g are very important to the jailbreak community, as it allows them to know which devices and what firmwares will be supported upon launch.

Chronic Dev maintains a piece of software called Greenpois0n which is likely to become the first jailbreak tool to provide and untethered hack for iOS 5.

Following in on its footsteps will be the iPhone Dev Team’s Redsn0w application. Available for both Mac and Windows, Redsn0w is probably not the easiest jailbreak around, but it’s certainly packed with a ton of features and options.

Speaking of which, the people behind Redsn0w also issued an update informing users of the availability of a new version. Redsn0w 0.9.9b9d enables the “Custom” button for Windows users, and corrects a few code errors.

Redsn0w still offers a tethered jailbreak for all devices except old-bootrom iPhone 3GS  handsets.
