Email notification from Apple confirms that at least one lucky buyer is getting the handset before launch

Apple is informing one of its customers (and perhaps many others) that the iPhone 4 they pre-ordered may arrive a day before the device’s official launch day. Apple tells this person that he/she “can check the FedEx website the morning of the June 23rd to track your package to your doorstep.”

Reproduced below is Apple’s email sent to the customer in question, as published by 9to5mac.

Subject: Apple Store - Your iPhone will deliver on June 23rd

Dear Apple Store Customer,

You recently received a Shipment Notification email from Apple advising you that your iPhone has shipped.

This email is to confirm that your delivery will occur on June 23rd. Although Apple and FedEx tracking information may currently indicate a later date, you can check the FedEx website the morning of the June 23rd to track your package to your doorstep.

In the event that you will not be available to accept delivery on June 23rd, it may be more convenient to use our pre-sign delivery option by visiting our Order Status website at http://www.apple.com/orderstatus.

Softpedia reported yesterday that Apple had started emailing iPhone 4 buyers notifying them that their new phone was on its way to them. Customers who placed more than one iPhone 4 pre-order were being told that the devices might ship separately. Our site noted that those who’d had to deal with the recent iPhone 4 pre-ordering issues should welcome the news, today’s story being no different.

According to a report by MacRumors, a number of shipment notifications indicated a “Delivers By” date of June 23rd. The above screenshot now stands as clear evidence that this was not a mistake. Although the next-generation handset is yet to reach its buyers, Apple has already launched iOS 4, the operating system powering the device. iOS 4 is compatible not only with iPhone 4, but with newer iPhone and iPod touch models as well.
